OpenNebula is a leading open-source platform for building private, hybrid, and edge clouds. Version 7.0 introduces enhancements that make it even more powerful when deployed on Stackscale infrastructure:

Simple management

New FireEdge interface and redesigned Sunstone dashboard.

Automation

RESTful APIs with integration for Terraform and Ansible.

Kubernetes & containers

Easily deploy Kubernetes clusters on bare-metal.

Integrated Marketplaces

Prebuilt images and templates ready to use.

Security & Multi-Tenancy

Advanced role-based access control (RBAC) and project-level isolation.

Resource optimization

Smart scheduler for efficient workload distribution.

Cloud Architecture at Stackscale

The infrastructure is designed to combine the flexibility of OpenNebula with the robustness of bare-metal hardware:
  • Frontend + VPN deployed on Stackscale’s internal cluster.
  • Private networks to interconnect hosts and VMs.
  • Public network with dedicated IPs for external services.
  • Multi-datacenter deployment across Madrid (MAD3 and MAD4) and Amsterdam (AMS2) to ensure true geographic high availability.

Stackscale Data Centers

  • MAD3 (Equinix, Alcobendas – Madrid) High-performance infrastructure with access to dozens of telecom carriers.
  • MAD4 (Interxion/Digital Realty, Madrid) Southern Europe’s digital hub, with energy efficiency and global connectivity.
  • AMS2 (NorthC Almere, Amsterdam) Carrier-neutral and sustainable data center in the heart of Europe’s digital hub.
The Madrid data centers are located more than 10 km apart, ensuring true geographic high availability.

Available servers (Hardware)

  • G2 – Intel Cascade Lake (Dell R640)
    • Up to 768 GiB RAM.
    • Intel Silver and Gold processors with Meltdown/Spectre hardware mitigation.
    • 40 Gb/s per node in redundant network.
  • G3 – AMD EPYC (Raphael and Genoa)
    • From 32 GiB to 768 GiB RAM.
    • Base speeds up to 3.8 GHz and turbo up to 5.4 GHz.
    • Optional: NVIDIA Tesla T4, L4 and L40S GPUs.
    • Up to 80 Gb/s per node in a redundant network.

NetApp network storage

Fully redundant systems with replication between data centers.

Premium Flash: All-Flash (≤1 ms latency, >6,000 IOPS/TB).
HybridFlash + SAS, cost optimized for secondary loads.
Archive (optional)for cold storage.
Automatic snapshots every 6h (16 versions) and customized policies.

Network and connectivity

Core multi-100Gup to 800 Gb/s on main trunks.
