Up to 768 GiB RAM in our new line of compute nodes

New nodes lines of Stackscale, with 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors

Among the news planned for 2020, we have launched a new line of compute nodes which go up to 768 GiB RAM. This new line of compute nodes is based on the latest microarchitecture from Intel®, Cascade Lake, and powered by second generation Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors.

CPU and memory optimized nodes

Our new line of compute nodes includes 128, 192, 384 and 768 GiB RAM nodes. All nodes have a hardware RAID controller with NVRAM and 40 Gbps in redundant MLAG (20 Gbps for storage and 20 Gbps for private interconnection and Internet access).

  • Node 128 M: 1x Intel® Xeon® Silver 4214R, 128 GiB RAM, 2x 1 TB SSD disks and memory optimized.
  • Node 192 C: 1x Intel® Xeon® Gold 6208U, 192 GiB RAM, 2x 1 TB SSD disks and CPU optimized.
  • Node 384 M: 2x Intel® Xeon® Silver 4214R, 384 GiB RAM, 2x 1 TB SSD disks and memory optimized.
  • Node 384 C: 1x Intel® Xeon® Gold 6248R, 384 GiB RAM, 2x 1 TB SSD disks and CPU optimized.
  • Node 768 M: 2x Intel® Xeon® Gold 6230R, 768 GiB RAM, 2x 1,6 TB SSD disks and memory optimized.
  • Node 768 C: 2x Intel® Xeon® Gold 6248R, 768 GiB RAM, 2x 1,6 TB SSD disks and CPU optimized.

Moreover, our technical and R&D teams are already studying the possibility of offering 1,5 TiB RAM nodes. As well as expanding our nodes’ configurations with GPU graphics cards, cryptographic cards, NVMe-oF network storage services, etc.

Improved Stackscale network

This renovation also comes with important improvements within our cutting-edge multi-100 G network. Among them, an increase in aggregated ports capacity from 40 G to 100 G. Our multi-100 G network connects every device to a minimum of 40 Gbps and a maximum of 800 Gbps for main trunk connections.

“All these changes go in the same direction: continuing to offer dedicated cloud solutions with high performance, high availability and predictable costs. So that our customers can benefit from the advantages of the cloud without losing control over their performance and IT budget. At the same time we guarantee strict levels of redundancy and security.”

— David Carrero Fernández-Baillo, VP Sales and co-founder of Stackscale

Our infrastructure solutions are perfect both for projects that demand a great amount of memory for the database (Big Data, deployment of virtualization platforms, serverless microservices’ infrastructures, and management, accounting, billing, CRM and ERP software) and projects in need of great computing power (content management systems with millions of visits, documentary management, data analytics solutions, eCommerce solutions with real high availability between two data centers and even streaming solutions that need a great bandwidth capacity towards the Internet).

Automatic geo-replication, Disaster Recovery made easy

Furthermore, regarding our goal to offer the maximum redundancy and security levels, we include the geo-replication in another data center of Flash Premium, Hybrid Plus and Hybrid storage volumes. This provides our customers with a geographically distant replica of their data, free of charge, in one of our data centers. We currently have two data centers in Madrid and one data center in Amsterdam; and we’ll open a new one in Amsterdam in 2021.

Storage volumes’ geo-replication is done automatically and updated once an hour. This allows extremely protecting data durability, as well as making Disaster Recovery planning easier.

Intel® Cascade Lake

Cascade Lake microarchitecture from Intel® is the first one to introduce in-hardware mitigations for the notorious Meltdown and Spectre vulnerabilities. As well as the first one to support 3D-XPoint-based memory modules.

Cascade Lake is based on the previous microarchitecture Skylake and adds multiple features: optimized configurations for specific markets, improved security, and other innovating technologies and special features. These are some of Cascade Lake’s specifications compared to previous microarchitectures:

  • Improved CPU speeds
  • DDR4 memory speeds up to 2933 MHz
  • Improved performance and efficiency for diverse types of workloads
  • Intel® Optane™ persistent memory supported
  • Optimized for running complex Artificial Intelligence workloads
